Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has given his opinion on Lionel Messi playing out on the wing for Barcelona.
In an interview with Bein Sports, the Frenchman claimed Messi will be unhappy with his new role if rival Cristiano Ronaldo carries on his impressive scoring streak at Real Madrid this season.
“When Messi sees Cristiano continue to score more goals than him then his morale will start to decline,” asserted Wenger.
“On the wing he will not be able to keep up his scoring statistics and eventually he will not be happy. Playing on the wing is very demanding physically.
“He’s the best player on Barca’s team, their strength, and is better off to the Coach if a chemistry exists between them.
“If the position doesn’t suit him then it weakens the team.”
Messi and Ronaldo will face each other on Tuesday when Argentina take on Portugal in a friendly international at Old Trafford.
