World Club Cup confirmed for Morocco

FIFA have confirmed the World Club Cup will be held in Morocco despite the country refusing to hold the African Nations Cup due to the Ebola virus.

“The 2014 World Club Cup will be held in Morocco and all preparations are continuing on schedule,” posted FIFA on its official Twitter account.

Champions League winners Real Madrid are due to take part in the tournament, to be held in Rabat and Marrakesh between December 10 and 14, which will see them installed as favourites alongside Copa Libertadores winners San Lorenzo.

The event also features CONCACAF champions Cruz Azul from Mexico and the champions of Asia and Africa, Sydney Wanderers and Es Setif respectively, while hosts Morocco will be represented by League winners Maghreb Athletic Tetouan.

Morocco declined to hold the African Nations Cup between January 17 and February 8, 2015 because of the risks associated with Ebola, which has so far killed around 5,000 people and is the worst epidemic known since it was identified in 1976.
