Khedira seeking Madrid stay

Real Madrid midfielder Sami Khedira says he wants to stay with the club despite recent reports linking him with a move away from Santiago Bernabeu.

The German international has been the subject of speculation since the start of the season that his future lies away from the Spanish capital.

However, in an interview with Kicker magazine Khedira has expressed a desire to remain part of Carlo Ancelotti’s squad– at least for now.

“At the moment I see no reason to leave the team in winter. Madrid is a great place and the club is in my heart.

“There is no reason to say I want to or I should go. My representative is talking to the club,” he confirmed.

After injuring his cruciate ligament in a game against Italy a year ago, which almost cost him his place in the World Cup, the 27-year-old subsequently suffered a muscle tear in his left thigh.

“I’ve been injured six weeks and after two training sessions I’m back with the squad again.

“This means that both the club and the Coach are counting on me, so when I’m back to 100 per cent I’ll be a candidate for the starting line-up.

“Last week I had a slight discomfort in the muscle, nothing serious, but didn’t want to risk it so I was not in the team,” he said about Madrid’s last game against Rayo Vallecano.
