Vicente del Bosque has clarified the situation of Chelsea midfielder Cesc Fabregas, who is joining up with Spain despite carrying an injury.
Del Bosque told a Press conference in Vigo that it’s not a case of La Roja doubting what they have been told by the Premier League club but merely following protocols and wanting to speak with the player.
He also explained why no replacement has been called up despite additions having been expected on Monday.
“We haven’t replaced Cesc because we want him to see our doctors,” the Coach told the Press, AS reports.
“There isn’t a lack of confidence in the player or the medical team at Chelsea or anything like that. We want our team to have a look and get clarification.
“We haven’t called anyone else up because Cesc is still on the list. That’s the story.”
Del Bosque also touched on the status of Barcelona’s Gerard Pique, named in the squad to play Belarus and Germany despite falling out of favour at Camp Nou.
“He’s a player we appreciate. There’s no silver lining in that he hasn’t played in 14 or 15 days,” del Bosque continued.
“He is training with the other defenders and when we compared him to the others we preferred to bring him in.”
