Elche Coach Fran Escriba has compared striker Jonathas to Diego Costa, having worked with the Spain international at Atletico Madrid.
Escriba was assistant to Quique Sanchez Flores at Vicente Calderon during Costa’s early time in the capital and speaking at a Press conference prior to Elche’s trip to Getafe, was asked about Jonathas.
“The way he plays, from the players I’ve had, seems to be like Diego Costa,” he noted, Marca reports.
“He feels comfortable in a struggle and he is very powerful. The bigger the better for us, but the important thing is the collective, not the individual.”
Escriba added that he expects a difficult game against El Geta and wants to pick up points so Elche aren’t relying on their late-season form to avoid the drop.
“It’s a tough game. They’ve had a good start to the season and go into this game very well,” he continued.
“Getafe are very dangerous. These are two teams comfortable playing on the break, because we have very fast players, but at the same time we like to have the ball.
“It will be important to see how we are without the ball.
“Winning would be a step closer to our goal. You don’t stay up with points in the final rounds but throughout.
“If we win at Getafe it won’t be euphoria and if we lose we won’t go into a depression.”
