Ronaldo picks up Golden Boot

Cristiano Ronaldo has picked up his Golden Boot award, sharing it with Luis Suarez after both players scored 31 goals in the 2013-14 season.

It is the third time Ronaldo has won the accolade, his second while a Madrid player, and the Portuguese marksman declared himself particularly pleased after receiving the trophy from his club President Florentino Perez.

“I didn’t expect so many people to be here and would like to thank my teammates because without their help it would not have been possible,” Ronaldo told an audience that included several of the current Madrid squad, including Iker Casillas, Gareth Bale and Sergio Ramos.

“I would also like to thank my family, the fans, and the club for giving me the chance to play for the best team in the world. It is a special day.

“I like individual awards and I work hard towards them, but I want to share it with the people who have supported me since I first came to Madrid.

“I promise to continue to do my best with goals and assists. I have many years left at Real Madrid and will keep trying to give my best.

“This is very special for me and I’m very happy,” he declared.
