Xabi Prieto: Arrasate can’t complain

Real Sociedad captain Xabi Prieto believes axed boss Jagoba Arrasate can have no complaints over the attitude of the players at the club.

Arrasate was sacked after the 1-0 weekend home defeat to Malaga following a poor start to the season that has seen the Txuri-urdin win just once from the opening 10 La Liga games, as well as being knocked out of the Europa League before the group stages by Krasnodar.

“These are hard times and it was a very difficult moment when the Coach and his staff departed, as we have had a two-year relationship with them,” Prieto told a Press conference.

“However, we know full well that when results are not forthcoming these things can happen and it’s a shame.

“Even so, I don’t think Jagoba can raise any objections about how we have trained and prepared for games.

“We’ve seen how the club deliberated before making the decision and it’s affected the squad because we believed in the coaching staff, but regrettably it hasn’t been possible to get good results.

“When the situation is like it is they are looking for a change and a reaction.”

The 31-year-old, who has been with the San Sebastian outfit his entire career, says it is not easy to put his finger on what has gone wrong.

“It’s difficult to diagnose the problem and it’s probably due to a combination of circumstances because we are training better than ever.

“But I have total confidence in this squad and I know we are capable of doing much better,” he declared.
