Cagliari boss Zdenek Zeman has claimed that he almost became Barcelona boss several years ago.
The experienced 67-year-old, who has been in charge of a host of clubs since beginning his coaching career in 1981, said he nearly landed the coveted role at the Camp Nou but could not agree terms.
“Several years ago I was contacted by Barcelona, we talked, but then it didn’t not result in anything,” Zeman is quoted as telling Marca, in quotes picked up by Italian media this week.
“The titles and victories are not everything, a Coach must also think to improve the players at his disposal.”
Zeman is admired for his attacking style of football and his teams are well known for their ability to score plenty of goals, although there is also a tendency to concede at the other end.
His coaching techniques are also famed for their meticulousness, with a high defence, zonal marking, offside trap and pressing just some of the features.
