Mustafi: Valencia success no accident

Valencia defender Shkodran Mustafi has reflected on his club’s second position in the table and says he is not surprised.

The 22-year-old German international, who joined Los Che from Sampdoria in the summer for a reported €8m and scored twice in the 3-1 win over Villarreal at the weekend, feels the success so far has not come about by chance.

“We are a young team that always makes the effort to remain focused and I came to Valencia because I needed to go to a structured club,” he told a Press conference.

“The Coach here has very clear ideas and it’s normalthat we havesuccess and achieve our objectives. My philosophy is not to take things game-by-game but day-by-day.

“In every matchyou have to get one more goal than your opponent and that’s what we try to do.”

Mustafi says he has been surprised at the passion of the Valencia fans, particularly after the away victory at El Madrigal.

“It’s amazing how so many travelled to watch us. In Italy I was not used to seeing so many supporters away from home.

“Their support is going to be very important for the rest of the season,” he maintained.
