Bartomeu backs Luis Enrique

Barcelona President Josep Maria Bartomeu has given his backing to Coach Luis Enrique following the defeats to Real Madrid and Celta Vigo.

Interviewed on TV3’s ‘Efectivament’ programme, Bartomeu urged the club’s fans to show a little patience and believes further success is just around the corner.

“There is no alarm and the results will come, but we must have patience because there were a lot of changes in the summer and that’s something you must take into consideration,” he maintained.

“Our confidence in Luis Enrique is total and these defeats will be quickly forgotten. Luis has the ability to transmit his fighting spirit and strength to the players.

“We have a very talented squad and there has only been a quarter of the season gone. We’re not worried, we’re excited.”

Bartomeu feels the many changes Enrique has made to his starting line-up in recent weeks is part of an overall strategy.

“It’s normal to make changes until he has found the right combination. We are trying to win everything and sometimes I watch training and the players are giving their all.

“We have invested but it has also been a record year for sales. We have brought in the coaches we wanted, although some things were impossible, and we have a large and talented squad.

“If the investment has been high then so are the expectations,” he concluded.
