Andoni Zubizarreta has insisted that Luis Enrique’s position as Barcelona Coach is not under threat after two successive defeats.
The Catalan giants failed to make their dominance against the Celta Vigo count, as they fell to a shock 1-0 loss at Camp Nou, but the sporting director has given the Enrique assurances that he will be given a fair crack of the whip.
“It always is [difficult] when you lose, especially when you suffer two consecutive defeats,” Zubizarreta told reporters.
“There is no doubt [about Enrique].”
Zubizarretta also addressed questions about Barca’s overall performance against Celta, the individual displays of Rafinha and Luis Suarez and Gerard Pique’s omission from the starting XI
“Football does these things to you. After going 1-0 down, we didn’t lose any facets to our play, but we still didn’t create any clear-cut chances,” the former Spain goalkeeper added.
“In the first half, we controlled the game, although Celta pressed high up the pitch. We had many opportunities but didn’t find the goal, and that played against our tranquillity.
“[Rafinha] has great quality and is in the process of growing. We must have patience for him to become decisive.
“Suarez is an active player and a point of reference, but he helps us out because he protects the ball well. It just so happened that the Celta goalkeeper was very good.
“I do not know why [Pique was dropped]. The calls are made by the Coach and he chooses the best XI.”
