Cosmos ‘very excited’ at Raul signing

New York Cosmos Coach Giovanni Savarese has expressed the excitement at the club at signing former Real Madrid captain Raul.

Raul has agreed a several-year deal with the North American Soccer League side and Savarese told reporters that picking up the ex-Spain international is part of the team’s long-term plan.

“We’re very excited. This is one more step to get where we want,” he said, Marca reports.

“Raul is a player who always looks for perfection and will push the club forward. He’s a great example for every player and will help everyone to become better.

“He is still hungry, like our philosophy. He knows we grow step by step and he shares our vision. His family loves New York and what the city offers.”

Savarese acknowledged that Raul may need time to adapt to playing at the Cosmos’ level but added that the forward’s qualities make him the ideal signing.

“This is a very physical League and some foreign players struggle to adapt, but his technique and intelligence will help,” the Venezuelan continued.

“With Raul, you see a player of great quality but also one who has passion and is humble. He is excited to be part of the history of this club and what it represents.”
