Caparros: Madrid at their best

Granada Coach Joaquin Caparros is wary of facing Real Madrid this weekend as he is concerned about the numerous ways Los Blancos can win games.

AS reports Caparros was speaking at a sponsor’s event and among the subjects discussed was his team’s next League game, against Madrid on Saturday.

“The problem is Madrid come in their best form. It’s impressive how they have the ability to win games,” he said.

“They can win by attacking, by counter-attacking, in set-pieces or just individual actions. They’re very balanced, without any cracks in the team.

“But you never know, maybe we’re coming in just as good a run of form.”

Caparros, a prolific user of social media, also revealed that when he is angry he has to make sure to leave his phone behind, lamented the amount of gum he goes through on the touchline as ‘it takes you to the dentist,’ and backed the decision to suspend Zinidine Zidane as Castilla Coach, arguing it’s important to have the right license.

He also reflected on the career of Sergio Ramos after giving the defender his debut at the age of 16 when they were together at Sevilla, and the achievements of Cristiano Ronaldo.

“Sergio has the ability to be a leader and the ambition to be the best player every day,” Caparros said of the centre-back.

“It’s amazing what he’s done for Real Madrid at his age.

“Cristiano has really surprised me. A player of his level, to get better every year, is amazing.”
