LFP Gala: Cristiano bags three awards

Cristiano Ronaldo helped himself to three awards at the Spanish Football League (LFP) gala in Madrid on Monday night.

The Portuguese was named best striker and best player of the 2013-14 La Liga campaign, while he was also presented with the best goal of the season award for his effort in Week 36 against Valencia.

Other Madrid players honoured were goalkeeper Keylor Navas, who was voted best ‘keeper for his performances with Levante, Sergio Ramos, named best defender, and best defensive midfielder Luka Modric.

Andres Iniesta won the award for best attacking midfielder yet Atletico Madrid, despite having six nominees in Thibaut Courtois, Felipe Luis, Miranda, Gabi, Koke and Diego Costa, surprisingly did not receive one trophy.

However, Diego Simeone’s work was acknowledged when he was named best Coach.

Carlos Bacca of Sevilla won the best South American player in the competition with Granada’s Brahimi selected Best African player.
