Porto boss Julen Lopetegui admitted Athletic Bilbao caused his side problems on Tuesday night, but felt his team deserved their victory.
The Portuguese giants defeated the Basques 2-1 in their Group H Champions League game at the Estadio do Dragao, goals from Hector Herrera and Ricardo Quaresma sandwiched between a Fernando Guillermo effort.
“Athletic caused us problems and had their chances, which they took advantage of to snatch the equaliser,” he told a Press conference.
“They are a great team with a lot of tactical assets but I thought we deserved more than the one goal we scored in the first half.
“That said, anyone who claims they have sewn up the match in the opening 45 minutes against Athletic does not know anything about football.
“However, I’m pleased with the win and there were some brilliant moments of play from us, although we are still not through to the next stage.”
