Espanyol Coach Sergio believes the major difference between his side and Atletico Madrid was the champions’ set-pieces.
Atletico won 2-0 with goals from Tiago Mendes and Mario Suarez, both originating via set-pieces, with Sergio generally pleased with his team.
“We stood up to Atletico but we were overcome on the set-pieces,” he said, AS reports.
“I don’t know if Atletico can win the League. The truth is I was watching my team.
“We wanted to avoid silly mistakes but there were mistakes that could have been avoided.”
Espanyol captain Sergio Garcia had to be substituted part-way through the match, Sergio explaining why.
“Sergio felt a niggle and we felt it was best to take him off. Hopefully he’s fit for next week. He should be,” the Coach said.
