Carlos Vela says he is proud to have been nominated for the Best Striker of the 2013-14 season award.
The Real Sociedad striker is particularly honoured to have been placed on the three-man list as his two rivals for the accolade are none other than Diego Costa and Cristiano Ronaldo.
“I’m clearly proud and it’s an honour to be competing with these two players, especially after seeing those who were left off the list.
“It’s very good for me and also the team because we are all together on the pitch. I’m really happy and hopefully it can be repeated again,” the Mexican told a Press conference.
Vela admits he was a little surprised to be included ahead of Barcelona’s Lionel Messi, who scored 12 more goals than him last term.
“It’s not really what I expected as besides working for yourself you also work for the good of the team.
“Obviously, if we receive awards then they are welcome, but they are not the priority as being happy with your work and picking up points are the main thing.
“Ahead of Messi? Well yes, but there are a lot of other good players in this League,” he maintained.
