Legendary Colombia midfielder Carlos Valderrama has backed compatriot James Rodriguez to be a success at Real Madrid.
In an interview with El Enganche, the 53-year-old claimed James was full value for the reported €80m Los Blancos paid Monaco for him during the summer.
“James showed his quality at the World Cup in Brazil. Just by adapting to a squad of players with such ability and who are the finished article is already an achievement, even more so because he is so young,” said Valderrama.
Although the 23-year-old won the Golden Boot in Brazil as the tournament’s top scorer, Valderrama feels there is still room for improvement.
“It is an important time for him to learn and now he has that opportunity. He’s only 23 and we hope he’ll be at Madrid a long time, as all of Colombia is right behind him,” he declared.
