Portugal national team boss Fernando Santos has hailed Real Madrid striker Cristiano Ronaldo as a ‘genius’.
Speaking to reporters before his country’s Euro 2016 qualifier against Denmark on Tuesday the 60-year-old, who took over from the sacked Paulo Bento in September, was full of praise for his star man.
“To have a player like Cristiano is always lucky and to manage a player of this level and calibre is never a headache.
“When you have a genius in your team you must take advantage of it,” declared Santos, before being asked if there was an element of player power and a lack of discipline within his squad.
“In the big teams there are always egos and when the level is very high then everyone wants to play.
“At the clubs they have regular contact with their players and issues can be resolved on a daily basis.
“Players link up with the national team from month to month but that doesn’t detract from discipline.
“Those who step out of line will be punished,” he warned.
