Former Barcelona striker David Villa believes Xavi Hernandez is now happy at the Camp Nou despite a turbulent summer.
Villa – currently preparing to make his debut in Australia with Melbourne City, where he is on loan from Major League Soccer outfit New York City before the start of their season – considers Xavi’s decision to remain with Barca was down to his friend and former teammate’s experience in football.
“I’ve talked with him a lot because he is my friend. Now he is older and has more experience he knew what he had to do this summer.
“As he’s still with Barcelona I’m following him and he’s playing a few games. I’m delighted for him because he’s happy,” the Asturian told Onda Cero, before being asked about another former colleague, Cesc Fabregas.
“I had no doubt he would link up well with Diego Costa at Chelsea as they both have great quality.
“I spoke to them both at the World Cup when they learned they would be playing together.
“I’ve played with some great footballers and the best ones to have given me the final ball were Cesc and David Silva,” he revealed.
