Cruyff: Time will tell with Enrique

Barcelona legend Johan Cruyff says only time will tell if current boss Luis Enrique will be a success at the Camp Nou.

In an interview with Bein Sports, the Dutchman gave his opinion on the Blaugrana’s flying start to the season and believes that right now everything is going in Enrique’s favour.

“Only in the future will we be able to tell if Luis is a success or not. At this point things are going well and the team has good players, but there are always injuries and things like that.

“That’s why you need to have a little bit of luck, but for the moment he has everything in his favour,” said the 67-year-old, who also assessed the arrival of striker Luis Suarez from Liverpool.

“Perhaps the presence of Suarez will improve the Messi-Neymar connection. Last year it failed because they did not perform together.”

Cruyff also called for calm over the acclaim Barca have received so far, having started the 2014-15 La Liga campaign with six wins and a draw from the opening seven games and yet to concede a goal.

“The season has only just started and there is already praise for the team. However, the awards are given out in May so we must leave people alone to do their work.

“Barca, despite so many changes, are winning and that’s an important step,” he maintained, before declaring himself satisfied with the new version of Lionel Messi this term.

“Sometimes when you can’t score yourself you have to make a pass. This comes with years of experience, something Messi is now developing, but that’s normal with the quality he possesses.”
