Patrick Kluivert believes Barcelona chose well when they appointed Luis Enrique as Coach during the summer.
The Dutchman, who spent six years at the Camp Nou between 1998 and 2004, shared a dressing room with Enrique as a player and says it is because he knows the club well that he will be success.
“When I was there Luis Enrique and Pep Guardiola were the team captains, with Pep first and Luis second.
“I can tell you that they were leaders and in today’s game leaders are very important,” said Kluivert in an interview with Sport.
“Luis has a very balanced team and stamps his personality and mentality on it. He did a great job at Celta Vigo before Barca but the most important thing is that he knows the club, what is required, and he transmits that philosophy to the players.
“It’s essential to convey the feeling of what the club wants from them. You don’t need to teach them how to play football but you need to get them to play to a system,” he explained.
Kluivert, a member of Holland’s coaching staff at this year’s World Cup in Brazil, downplayed the Catalans’ recent Champions League reverse at Paris Saint-Germain, and instead praised the French team.
“Barcelona have a very good team. The loss to PSG was a defeat, yes, but it’s not because Barca played badly. It was because PSG played very well.”
