Suarez called up for Uruguay friendlies

Barcelona forward Luis Suarez has been named in the Uruguay squad for friendlies against Saudi Arabia and Oman.

Suarez is banned from competitive games as a result of biting Italy defender Giorgio Chiellini at the World Cup but the Court of Arbitration for Sport ruled he is eligible for friendlies for club and country.

The former Liverpool striker has played in a number of non-competitive games for Barca, including the Joan Gamper Trophy at the start of the season.

It will be late 2015 at the earliest that Suarez can play a competitive game for Uruguay as he received a lengthy international ban as part of his punishment, as well as a four-month ban from all football.

The latter sanction expires late in October, with Suarez to be available for the first Clasico of the season when Barca travel to Real Madrid.

Suarez, Jose Maria Gimenez, Diego Godin, Cristian Rodriguez and Christian Stuani are the Primera representation in Oscar Tabarez’s squad for the friendlies.
