Mathieu: Luis Enrique trusts me

Barcelona defender Jeremy Mathieu believes he is enjoying the full confidence of boss Luis Enrique following his summer move from Valencia.

Speaking ahead of the Catalans’ Champions League clash with Paris Saint-Germain at the Parc des Princes on Tuesday, Mathieu admitted how much he is enjoying life at the Camp Nou.

“I have the confidence of both the club and Coach and I am really enjoying it here, but I just try to do my utmost to help the team and simply play as I used to at Valencia.

“However, defence starts with the attackers and when everyone is doing their job it makes it all so much easier,” the 30-year-old told a Press conference.

PSG have striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic ruled out with a heel problem

and another star man in Ezequiel Lavezzi will also be missing, having suffered a hamstring tear that will sideline him for three weeks.

However, Mathieu feels there is sufficient quality elsewhere in the French outfit’s ranks to cause problems.

“There are other great players at PSG besides those that are out injured, although I was looking forward to playing against Ibrahimovic.

“They have plenty of internationals like Edinson Cavani, Lucas Moura and Javier Pastore who can play at a very high level.

“Even so, for me the match against PSG is just one more. Important, yes, but there is no extra pressure,” he insisted.
