Bergantinos ‘understands’ Depor jeers

Deportivo la Coruna midfielder Alex Bergantinos says he understands the jeers that greeted his team’s latest defeat.

The Galicians suffered a third straight loss at the weekend when Almeria won 1-0 at Riazor thanks to a 93rd minute Edgar goal from a counter-attack, prompting a section of supporters to vent their frustrations on the players.

“We ourselves would have whistled for losing a game like that. The fans are suffering and we’ve had a tough week with three losses, so it’s normal they show their anger at these results.

“We must understand that the people in the stands are suffering along with us, because the players in the dressing room also feel it, but we must remain calm,” Bergantinos [pictured, right] told Mundo Deportivo.

“We cannot afford to turn on each other, so we must stick together. This is an important year for us and we know we’ll have difficult times like the present, but there will also be moments when the fans are applauding victories at Riazor.”

The experienced 29-year-old, who has been with Depor his entire career save for loan spells with Xerez, Granada and Gimnastic, called for “clear heads to think about the next game,” which is this weekend at the Sanchez Pizjuan against Sevilla.

“Except for the 8-2 defeat against Real Madrid we have competed in every game and we could have got something from all of them.

“Therefore, we need to go to Sevilla with confidence, knowing that we can stand up to any team,” he explained.
