‘Depor must start winning’

Alex Bergantinos has urged his Deportivo teammates to turn ‘competitive’ performances into wins, if they want to stay up this season.

Depor, on to their third Coach of the season, are rooted to the bottom of the table, having won just three games all season.

Whilst they sit nine points adrift from safety, midfielder Bergantinos believes that they still have a chance of staying up, but that next weekend’s home match with Rayo Vallecano is the first of many must-win fixtures.

“There have been so many opponents that have not been superior to us. We have been competitive in every game,” reflected Bergantinos to reporters after training today.

“Except in Sevilla, we have deserved more in every game and the team still believes. If we put together two wins and move closer to the rest of the teams, we have our chances.

“We have to win at home Rayo Vallecano next week to stay alive. Saturday’s is an important game. We had the morale-booster against Madrid this weekend, where we deserved something but they won.

“It is now no use doing well if we do not get the three points. Saturday we cannot escape the game at Riazor.

“Survival is difficult, but we have our chances. We face direct rivals and putting together some consecutive wins can make a difference.

“If we get to three or four points behind with five games to go, I think we will have our chances.”
