Alex wants win at Atleti

Alex Bergantinos is the latest Deportivo player to declare that only a win will suffice away to Atletico Madrid this weekend.

The Galicians head into the Sunday encounter 19th in the table and with only two wins to their name all season.

However, it is beacuase of that situation that Bergantinos believes the team must aim for all three points.

“Right now I would not take a draw, we have to win, you can never accept anything less,” he declared to reporters in the build up.

“The team is going to the Calderon with the mentality that they can win, we have to be confident, keep on track and face up to them, because we have the level to beat them.

“I am totally convinced of our chances. We did well at Valencia and can stand up to anyone. On the field, neither they nor us are after anything other than a win. We must go there prepared to inflict damage.”

To come away with anything, the midfielder admitted that the team’s defence, which has conceded 31 times in 14 games, must improve.

“We are conceding too many goals, but not all from the same mistakes. The other day against Betis [2-3], we played 30 or 40 minutes spectacularly in defence and attack and scored our goals then.

“We have to work on our concentration to avoid any errors. We must also be more decisive in scoring. Such mistakes as missed opportunities are punished by teams in the Primera Division.”
