Olympiacos boss Michel said his side had beaten Atletico Madrid at their own game following Tuesday’s 3-2 Champions League win in Athens.
The Greeks pulled off the surprise of the night at the Karaiskakis Stadium, and former Real Madrid and Barcelona player Michel believes his team got their tactics spot on.
“We are really happy because we tried to spoil their game and succeeded,” Michel explained to reporters post-match.
“All of my players understood their role and we played like a team, which is what [Diego] Simeone’s side does.
“We forced them out of their comfort zone, like Atletico generally do to their opponents, and took them by surprise, so it worked well.
“They haven’t conceded three for a long time and my players worked extremely hard. We got the win and are delighted.
“Nights like this don’t come along often and getting into the last 16 again would great, even better than last season,” beamed Michel.
