RFEF to intervene in Leon-Getafe row?

The RFEF could be set to intervene in the standoff between Pedro Leon and Getafe after a meeting was convened for this week.

AS reports that Angel Maria Villar has called the assembly and the situation could be clarified by Tuesday.

Getafe did not register Leon for the new season as to do so would have sent the club’s wage bill over the LFP-imposed limit of €17m. Leon is Getafe’s highest-paid player.

The player and the club have been at odds over alleged offers that were made for Leon in pre-season, with clubs such as Sevilla and Hannover drawn into the mire.

Leon has involved the AFE, the players’ union, who appealed the LFP’s decision not to give Leon a licence to play, AS add.

The Sports Council, a government department that oversees sport in the country, have also played a part in the affair.

Leon could be granted a licence to play for Getafe through the RFEF, AS suggest, as there is a precedent for that eventuality.

In the 2005-06 season Murcia’s registration of a number of players was challenged by the LFP, for financial reasons, but the agreement that meant the LFP was responsible for registrations had by that point expired and the RFEF gave Murcia the go-ahead.

AS say it hasn’t been renewed and so the RFEF could register Leon for Getafe, which would mean he is able to play.

If the RFEF don’t come to a conclusion over Leon’s status then it may be left to the Sports Council to decide if he should be allowed to play or not.
