Confusion over Khedira injury

Sami Khedira is facing as much as eight weeks on the sidelines but it’s unclear if he was injured playing for Real Madrid or training with Germany.

AS report that the midfielder has torn a his thigh and Madrid have claimed he suffered the injury while training with the World Cup winners after joining up following the weekend.

But Germany say the injury occurred when playing for Madrid against Real Sociedad, where Khedira got a 16-minute run-out in the 4-2 defeat.

Marca add that regardless of the circumstances of the injury it is a blow for Carlo Ancelotti, who has a squad with little depth in midfield and the Champions League is due to start shortly.

Khedira is expected to miss at least seven games, two in Europe and domestic fixtures against Atletico Madrid, Deportivo La Coruna, Elche, Villarreal and Athletic Bilbao.

The 27-year-old was previously injured playing for Germany in late 2013, missing almost the entirety of the rest of the 2013-14 campaign, returning for the Champions League final and the World Cup.
