Granero: Madrid match will be special

Esteban Granero is looking forward to the ‘special’ occasion of facing Real Madrid on Sunday.

The midfielder came through the youth ranks at Santiago Bernabeu, before being sold to Queens Park Rangers in 2012 and eventually going on to represent Real Sociedad.

And with La Real’s clash against Los Blancos this weekend, ‘El Pirata’ will face his old side for the first time.

“It's really special for me to play this game after all my life at Madrid,” he told Marca.

“I have many friends there.

“I went there when I was eight and left not long ago. They educated me very well there, they taught me how to play football very well and everyone at the club treated me superbly.

“They are incredible team. The President is set on outdoing himself every year and by the looks of it, he's achieving just that.

“Last year, they won their tenth Champions League, which I was happy about; and they came close to winning the Liga, so I think it was a great year for them.”
