Miguel Angel Moya has declined to offer an excuse for Atletico Madrid’s slow start to the new League campaign.

Atletico began the defence of their title with a 0-0 draw against Rayo Vallecano on Monday and Moya was asked if the team was tired from the two-legged Supercopa.

“I think it affects everything. It’s not an excuse because we are self-critical and we don’t look for excuses,” the goalkeeper replied, according to AS.

“Evidently there is a physical and mental fatigue from the Supercopa, but we weren’t that tired.

“We came to the game in good physical condition but the path of the game but us in a place to not have chances in the second half.

“It’s true that Rayo had a very clear chance but it’s also true that it was the only one they had. We had two very similar in the first half. The problem was it was not the day for anyone to score.

“The team was solid but the problem was we didn’t create second half chances. The suffering is relative because I saw a very strong team behind the uniform.

“Rayo dominated more in the second half than the first but in the balance if you look at the chances Atletico were good in this aspect.

“Another issue to discuss is that we were not as successful and cool in front of goal as we could be in other games.”
