Jimenez: I love Atletico

Raul Jimenez has moved to put his past support for Real Madrid behind him by declaring his love for Atletico Madrid at his official presentation.

Jimenez signed for the champions from Club America over the summer and made his first appearance in Monday’s goalless draw with Rayo Vallecano.

Speaking to reporters today at his first Press conference, Jimenez expressed his happiness at being at Vicente Calderon.

“First I want to thank President Cerezo for his welcome and the team that has supported me in everything to make everything easier,” AS reports the Mexico international as saying.

“I have noticed a strong team with a good attitude to work. Step by step, getting victories.

“They’re making it very easy to adapt to the team and the city.

“[Being a Madrid fan] is in the past, with what I have experienced in a short time here. I am in love with Atletico. I have a vision to make history here.

“I’m very happy I was able to make my debut in the League. It’s important to start new goals. We had a good first half but in the second fatigue from the Supercopa was noticeable, but I think it shows the team is prepared to defend the title.”

Jimenez is part of Atletico’s attempts to replace David Villa and Diego Costa but said he doesn’t feel pressured as he steps into the shoes of the departed pair.

“It’s not pressure for me. It’s another incentive when comparisons like that are made about me,” he insisted.

“I would love to follow in footsteps that size. I have to score goals and create goals.

“It’s a very important challenge in my career. Knowing that Mexicans were here before me makes me proud but I come to make my own history.”
