Bartomeu: Enrique Barca’s key signing

Barcelona President Josep Maria Bartomeu believes Luis Enrique was the club’s most important signing of the summer.

The Catalans have added goalkeepers Claudio Bravo and Marc-Andre Ter Stegen, defenders Jeremy Mathieu and Thomas Vermaelen, midfielder Ivan Rakitic and forward Luis Suarez, but Bartomeu has said it’s the Coach who matters most.

“The most important signing of the summer is Luis Enrique, the first signing of the promised revolution,” Mundo Deportivo reports Bartomeu as saying.

“We said we were going to tackle the summer. We already knew him as a player and Coach of Barca B. He gives us passion, leadership, sacrifice and hard work.”

Bartomeu added that Suarez was the club’s star signing, but welcomed all the new additions as he spoke to the Barca congress.

“Suarez is a leading player who wanted to play for the club many years ago,” Bartomeu continued.

“Barca have reinforced the talent we already had, players like Xavi Hernandez, Andres Iniesta, Sergio Busquets, Lionel Messi and Neymar.

“The idea is to be competitive again and win like we have in the last decade.

“Last season was not good enough for the first team to win the Supercopa and be out of the League and the Cup.”
