Higuain ‘flattered’ by Barca interest

Napoli striker Gonzalo Higuain has admitted he was flattered to be linked to Barcelona but insists it was never a likely move.

The former Real Madrid forward was mentioned earlier in the summer as a possible Barca target and his international colleague Lionel Messi publically called for Higuain to move to Camp Nou.

But ahead of the friendly in Geneva between Napoli and Barca, Higuain has said he didn’t think about leaving Serie A.

“I always told the truth. I was thinking of the World Cup and then returning to Naples,” AS reports Higuain as telling Gazzetta dello Sport.

“I was flattered. I think every player would like to play next to a great champion [such as Messi] but that doesn’t mean I wanted to leave my team.”
