Benitez on Higuain & Michu

Rafael Benitez was unable to confirm if Gonzalo Higuain and Michu would line-up for Napoli in tonight’s friendly with Barcelona.

The sides meet in Geneva and at a pre-match Press conference, Benitez suggested it was too soon to ask much of Higuain after his World Cup exertions.

“Gonzalo just returned to the team. He really wants to play with his teammates and offers positive signs,” the Coach said, according to AS.

“Physically he’s good and has always shown a positive attitude. He’s not yet 100%, that’s a reality not hidden to anyone, but he’ll travel with us and we will assess right at the end if he can play, even a few minutes.”

Michu meanwhile has joined on loan from Swansea City and Benitez said he wanted to help the forward regain his confidence after a difficult second season in the Premier League.

“He’s working hard and well and remember that he didn’t play much last year, with a decline in his fitness,” Benitez continued.

“I believe it will only be a matter of time, his attitude and work are at their best, I am convinced.

“Michu is a player I particularly like because he offers an alternative and lets you apply different solutions in terms of the team’s attacking play.

“Maybe it’s too early to say who will play and who won’t but I have full confidence in this team and I’m sure that whoever plays will give everything for Napoli against a great rival.”
