Navas ready to work for Madrid place

Keylor Navas has said he isn’t joining Real Madrid expecting to be the first choice, but is willing to work for his place.

Madrid yesterday confirmed the signing of the Costa Rica international from Levante, bringing in a third goalkeeper to rival Diego Lopez and Iker Casillas.

Navas spoke to reporters as he left Costa Rica for Spain following his post-World Cup break and insisted he is willing to knuckle down and show his worth.

“Being first choice is complicated. I’ll work at Real Madrid with humility,” AS reports Navas as saying.

“Now for the issue of the check-up, sign, and get to work.”

Navas added that he was of the belief that he could do enough to become Madrid’s No.1 and feels time is on his side with a six-year contract.

“God didn’t put anything in front of us that we can’t overcome,” he continued.

“Six years gives me peace. I’m looking forward to it very much. I will work with humility and learn from the players of Real Madrid.”

Navas has been welcomed to Santiago Bernabeu by the likes of Alvaro Arbeloa, who used Twitter to greet his new teammate, and Navas was thankful for it.

“I’m grateful. It says a lot about the club and the players,” he reflected.

“Hopefully I can adapt well. I asked God to give me health. I’ll learn a lot from all the players.

“It’s a great experience that I will take advantage of. Now I give my all, with great humility.”
