Scolari: Future out of my hands

Brazil Coach Felipe Scolari has said that he will let the President of the country’s football federation decide his future after the World Cup.

The hosts ended the tournament in fourth place after their 7-1 semi-final defeat to Germany was followed by a 3-0 reverse against the Netherlands in the third place play-off.

Scolari told reporters after the match that his future was always going to be decided by the bosses at the CBF, and that remains the case.

AS adds that Scolari defended Brazil’s tournament despite their last two defeats, and insisted the players should be praised, not criticised.

“I will let the CBF decide. It’s what was agreed at the start,” he said.

“The President is the one who has the power to analyse what happened, but it isn’t a subject to discuss now.

“In the three World Cups I’ve played [two with Brazil and one with Portugal] I’ve always reached the semi-finals. I have no regrets in my life.

“Football can change with one play. The 7-1 result was the worst in the history of Brazil, we already know that, but be positive: in 2006 and 2010 we didn’t get to the semi-finals.

“In the last 18 months we’ve won the Confederations Cup and were among the top four at the World Cup. The suffering isn’t due to Brazil Coaches or leaders. Brazil no longer has such promise.

“We had a very good World Cup. We weren’t good in the final matches.

“The match was balanced but the early goal changed everything. We didn’t play badly. The players should be praised.”
