‘Germany were united’

Manuel Neuer has pointed to the togetherness of the Germany side as a reason for their World Cup victory.

Joachim Low’s team overcame Argentina in the final thanks to a Mario Gotze goal in extra time.

It’s Germany’s fourth World Cup and first since 1990, as well as a first trophy of any kind since Euro ’96.

“We are very happy and our unity in the tournament was wonderful,” Neuer told reporters after the final whistle.

“It’s wonderful to win in Brazil. Congratulations to Argentina, they gave us a real fight.

“I’ve always given my all for this team and the success is for everybody. Now we celebrate.”

Neuer was also named the best goalkeeper in the tournament, picking up the Golden Gloves award.
