Suarez loses FIFA appeal

An appeal by both Luis Suarez and the Uruguayan FA against the forward’s ban for biting Giorgio Chiellini has been rejected.

The incident occurred during the World Cup match between Uruguay and Italy last month, with the 27-year-old given a subsequent four-month worldwide and nine-match international ban.

It has been announced today that world football’s governing body have opted to uphold their initial decision, meaning that Suarez is still set to miss the opening months of the new club season.

However, there remains the option for both the player and the Uruguayan FA to lodge an appeal to the Court of Arbitration of Sport, should they wish to do so.
