Brazil appealing Silva booking

Brazil have asked FIFA to consider removing the yellow card shown to Thiago Silva in the World Cup quarter-final win over Colombia.

As it stands the captain is suspended for the semi-final against Germany after he was cautioned by Carlos Velasco Carballo for blocking a goalkick from David Ospina and kicking the ball away.

Brazil will be without the injury Neymar and have appealed to the governing body to scrub out Silva’s booking, insisting that the coming together with Ospina was accidental as the defender tried to get back into position.

Should Thiago Silva not be available then Dante, the Bayern Munich defender, is expected to come in, while David Luiz will take the captain’s armband.

“For us it is a big blow. You can’t replace Thiago, because he is our leader on and off the field,” Fred said, according to AS, with Dani Alves echoing his sentiments.
