Laudrup wants Xavi at Lekhwiya

Former Barcelona forward Michael Laudrup wants to bring Xavi Hernandez to Qatar club Lekhwiya, where he was recently appointed Coach.

Marca reports that Laudrup has asked the club to sign Xavi for next season after reported offers from Al Arabi and Al Jaisch didn’t come through.

Barca have admitted there’s a good chance Xavi will leave the club this summer and while Lekhwiya have yet to make an offer, it’s thought they will do within a matter of days.

Xavi had been strongly linked with a move to MLS side New York City FC but that transfer is no longer straightforward either, Marca claim.

Former Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard is expected to move to the club, following David Villa, and the two would not leave space in the budget for Xavi.

New York could still make Xavi an offer but it wouldn’t be the financial package the playmaker would otherwise command. He has two years left on his €12m a year Barca contract, and Laudrup’s Lekhwiya could match it.
