Pekerman: Colombia can be proud

Colombia Coach Jose Pekerman has said the country can be proud of their team after their World Cup came to an end against Brazil.

The hosts won the all-South America quarter-final 2-1 and now go on to play Germany, but Colombia won praise for their performances throughout the tournament.

Pekerman said at his post-match Press conference that the defeat hurts but he felt Colombia gave a very good account of themselves.

“The image we presented is very good. Colombia must be proud of this team,” ESPN Radio reported.

“It’s a tough time for us. We had the dream of being able to win this game. We don’t stop dreaming.

“We had momentum and desire but we couldn’t get through. The team did a lot because football is important in Colombia.

“The tension was very high. We always want to win.

“We knew after the game against Chile that Brazil had learned. There was no doubt their performance would improve.

“Maybe they were looking for the very fast goal and that destabilised us from our usual game.

“We continued to strive for the equalising goal and came close, even with some questionable decisions that could have changed the game.”
