Neymar: Winning is what counts

Neymar has refuted suggestions the Brazil team were too nervous against Chile, insisting the players had the qualities required to win matches.

The Barcelona forward appeared before the Press to preview the hosts’ World Cup quarter-final with Colombia and denied there was tension among the squad.

“We played with joy and our commitment is huge,” he argued, according to Mundo Deportivo.

“You can’t always win 5-0. I don’t want to put on a show. We’re here to win. Wanting to win doesn’t mean anything. We’re not here to make people laugh, we’re here to win.

“I know I have a gift to play football but if you train you have better luck on the pitch. Training is the previous game. Colombia will be another war and a hard game.

“We’ve always had confidence. It’s not through mourning that we gain trust but through winning.

“A clear victory always boosts your confidence.”

Neymar also dismissed the idea that being the hosts’ star player and main attacking threat is too much pressure to cope with.

“I don’t feel pressure, either from inside or outside,” he said.

“My teammates help me. It’s the national team and one player doesn’t decide everything, you help others.

“The pressure of playing a World Cup is there but I don’t feel pressure. Since I saw Ronaldo play I’ve been dreaming of playing a World Cup.

“We’re playing at home and our friends are there. I just have to play football and be happy, be responsible, but above all be happy because that stuff happens.”
