Monaco & Madrid in Falcao talks

Real Madrid and Monaco have begun early talks on the transfer of Colombia striker Radamel Falcao, reports in Spain claim.

AS say that Madrid have made an approach for the former Atletico Madrid forward and the Ligue 1 club will let Falcao leave once a price is agreed.

Falcao is believed to want to move to Santiago Bernabeu, having left La Liga a year ago in a €45m transfer. He earns €14m a season and has four years remaining on his contract.

It’s said that Falcao made an agreement with Monaco owner Dmitry Rybolovlev that if Madrid came calling, the Principality club would negotiate, while it was suggested last summer that Falcao intended to use Monaco as a bridge between Atletico and Madrid, as Los Colchoneros wouldn’t sell directly to Los Blancos.

Manchester United and Chelsea are both understood to have made approaches to Monaco for Falcao but the player informed his agent, Jorge Mendes, that he only wanted to go to Madrid.

The serious knee injury Falcao suffered last season – which ruled him out of the World Cup – has the potential to be a factor, but medical reports have said that Falcao is healed from the injury and only needs to build up his fitness.

It’s expected then that Falcao will complete his move to Madrid this summer, with the prospect of playing for the club described as his ‘childhood dream.’
