Atletico Madrid have made an offer of €15m for Manchester City striker Alvaro Negredo, Marca have reported.
The champions are looking for a striker to replace Chelsea-bound Diego Costa and it’s said they have made an approach to their Premier League counterparts for the ex-Sevilla forward.
But City say Atleti’s offer is only half of the figure they would accept for Negredo as they aren’t looking to sell the 28-year-old.
Despite City’s insistence that they don’t want to part with Negredo, it’s understood that the player and City manager Manuel Pellegrini don’t see eye-to-eye.
Negredo scored 23 times in his first year with City but fell out of favour towards the end of season, potentially costing him his place in the Spain squad for the World Cup.
He would welcome the chance to return to La Liga and Diego Simeone is a known fan, having wanted Negredo to replace Radamel Falcao a year ago.
Negredo’s €3m wages wouldn’t be a problem for Atletico either as they will have money to spend once Costa leaves, with David Villa’s departure also freeing up space in the budget.
