Van Gaal: Kuyt trained for five weeks

Louis van Gaal has revealed Dirk Kuyt has spent the last five weeks training to play as a left-sided wing-back.

The former Liverpool striker took the position for the Netherlands’ 2-0 win over Chile and speaking after the match, the Coach revealed he had worked hard at preparing the player for his new role.

“Dirk has trained five weeks to play there,” van Gaal said, according to Dutch publication De Telegraaf. “That pleases me a lot.

“I said the match would be decided with the space that would come in the last 15 minutes and it’s nice that’s what happened.”

Leroy Fer came on as a substitute and scored in the 77th minute while Memphis Depay added the second goal in injury time.
