Mexico advance at Croatia’s expense

Mexico produced a scintillating second half performance to beat Croatia and seal their place in the World Cup Last 16.

It was an excellent showing by Migual Herrera's team, whose victory means they finish second in Group A at the expense of their opponents tonight and will now face Holland in the second round.

Following a goalless and tension ridden first half, the North Americans finally made the breakthrough with around 20 minutes remaining in Recife. Captain Rafa Marquez headed in from a corner and goals by Andres Guardado and Javier Hernandez made it two and three soon after.

Ivan Perisic scored a late consolation for Croatia but it was far too little too late. They are eliminated and will head home along with Cameroon.
