Barca priced out of defender chase

Barcelona’s search for a new centre-back or two has been hampered as clubs are raising their prices when the Catalans come calling.

Marca reports that Paris Saint-Germain, Valencia, Atletico Madrid and Porto have all received contact from Barca over one of their players, and each time the club has responded with a demand for a substantial fee.

PSG say €45m is needed to sign Marquinhos, Valencia insist Jeremy Mathieu will only move for his €20m plus tax release clause, Atletico likewise regarding Miranda but to the tune of €30m, while Mangala has been put in the Marquinhos price bracket.

It’s claimed that the desperation of sporting director Andoni Zubizarreta is known and that, plus the imminent takeover of Valencia by Peter Lim and Porto President Jose Pinto’s tough negotiating stance, are the reasons Barca are being priced out.
