Real Madrid have been in touch with the agent of Benfica goalkeeper Jan Oblak, with Atletico Madrid also interested.

Both Madrid clubs have registered their interest in the 21-year-old, Miha Mlakar has told AS, but the agent stopped short of confirming his client would make the move across the Iberian Peninsula.

“Both Madrid and Atletico [are interested],” Mlakar said. “There has been first contact with Madrid.

“The summer transfer window is very long and runs until August 31.”

Oblak is understood to be tied to Benfica until 2018, with a buyout clause set at €20m. Madrid could keep both Iker Casillas and Diego Lopez at Santiago Bernabeu this summer but that wouldn’t preclude a move for Oblak, AS claim.

Should Madrid sigh Oblak he could be loaned out for a few years, with the contracts of Casillas and Lopez both due to end in 2017, although the clubs have yet to speak about a proposed transfer.

Atletico are also in the market for another goalkeeper after Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho confirmed Thibaut Courtois is to return to Stamford Bridge.

The champions have signed Miguel Angel Moya but are said to have a firm interest in Oblak. So to do Juventus, AS say, and they could rival the Madrid clubs.

Valencia were said to be in the running for Oblak but Mlakar has dismissed the chances of the goalkeeper moving to Mestalla.
